Program Description

The German Language Education Department at the Faculty of Languages and Arts, Yogyakarta State University, was established on August 23, 2005, after initially being part of the Foreign Language Education Department founded in 1976. In 2016, the department earned an "A" accreditation from BAN-PT and became the first German Language Department in Indonesia to receive the "Excellent" accreditation, reflecting its strong commitment to enhancing the quality of education. As the only department of its kind in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java, the German Language Education Department at UNY has great potential to produce competent graduates in the fields of education, tourism, and translation. The Bachelor of German Language Education (BoGLE) program at Yogyakarta State University (YSU) prepares students to become independent, responsible, critical, creative, and innovative graduates. The program equips students with the competencies needed to excel in teaching German, entrepreneurship in the tourism industry, and novice-level German translation. The curriculum is designed so that students can complete their studies within 8 semesters.

In the teaching field, students develop effective communication skills in German, both orally and in writing. They also gain expertise in analyzing German language and literature, designing learning programs, and teaching German. In the tourism sector, students acquire practical experience in tourism environments, such as guiding, hospitality, and tour agency management. In translation, the program provides a solid foundation in translation theory, general text translation, and specialized themed translation, ensuring that students are well-prepared for careers in this field.
